This report on recent research by a real archaeologist and academic team (i.e., not Edgar Cayce disciples) is interesting. It appears worth following the results. There will apparently be a National Geographic Special on this tonight. Here’s an excerpt:
A research team searching for the fabled Lost City of Atlantis says it may have been found, just off the coast of southern Spain.
Leading a team of international geologists and archeologists, University of Hartford professor Richard Freund used the detailed accountings [sic] of Greek philosopher Plato as a map, narrowing down the location to the Mediterranian and Atlantic.
Then, a satellite photo of a suspected submerged city was used to find the site just north of Cadiz, Spain. There, buried in the vast marshlands of the Dona Ana Park, the team believes they have pinpointed the ancient, multi-ringed dominion known as Atlantis.
Since the exact spot of the alleged submerged city was not indicated, I couldn’t find anything worth showing you on Google Earth. Perhaps after the National Geographic special more details will be on the web.

I’m troubled that they assume what they find will be Atlantis. If there are submerged structures that match on-shore structures, that’s an exciting association, but not corroboration of a specific identity.
we’ll have to wait and see if it is ever excavated.

I think its too early to say its Atlantis, unless we get archifacts..

on a different topics, he would be the suggested site of Troy. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy) a city and war described by Homer. There exist a theory (on History Channel ) that Troy was destroyed by a eartquake near the end of a 10 years war with the Ageans; this finally allowed the Ageans to conquer Troy. the theorists based themselves on the account of homer about Poseidon (lord of eartquake) helping the Acheans..They link the Trojan Horse to the emblem of Poseidon represented by a horse.. According to wikipedia site, not too many archefacts we found on the ruins.. I am not surprised, according to what Homer said, if it is true, each time a warrior was falling during this war; they would fight over the armour and weapons of the befallen..They would have been looting everything they could.. The goal of wars was to steal. (isnt the same today?)
I wonder if anyone would ever made a version of the Trojan War, were the warrior would try to get the armour of a befallen.. and shows his commarades defending the honor of the fallen to death.. and try to stop the looting..
The N.G. program was intriguing but provided no evidence actually identifying the site. It could be Tartessos (tho Huelva further up the coast is also a cadidate), but is unlikely to be Atlantis since the locale does not match Plato’s geographic paramaters at all well. Atlantis proper was almost surely a supervolcanic island off Portugal that exploded and sank in the 17th century BC (See Roots of Cataclysm, Algora Publ. NY 2009).
