You can learn some things about the Portent, the sequel to The Facade, in this interview I just did this past weekend. It’s two hours, and we spend a lot of time talking about the sequel. I’m not giving away the store, but if you liked The Facade and want some idea of what the sequel (pardon the pun) portends, you should listen. Trust me.
Mike, I can’t wait to read it as it sounds like it will top the first one. And make it a trilogy by all means. Also, have you ever thought of a series of prequels– The Father Benedict Chronicles? It could be all about the younger days of this priest/secret agent. Doubtless there are many theologically significant, paranormal thrillers you could write featuring him as wrestles with mortal and supernatural evil throughout the major events of the mid-20th century. Just a thought.
Also, do you think the real mortal and supernatural evil in our world pays attention to all of your writings (and those of other modern theologians and biblical historians of today, of course) and reacts to them by changing their plans in accordance with what you write? I mean, if you spin out a scenario that is even close to the truth, they’ve got to be aware of it and how you’re readers are going to receive it.
on the prequels, no. I’m lucky to be able to write anything. If I had the luxury of just writing I have lots of ideas on ancient stuff that I’d gravitate toward.
on the second item, I haven’t thought that up to now. But the Portent may change that. It will bother a lot of people across the board.
On the prequel thing, I kinda figured that’s how you would respond, and you’re right of course. As a professor of 3-4 classes each semester and as a writing center director, I hardly have time to grade papers and prepare all my lectures. I frankly don’t see how you do it all.
On the other issue, I hope the Portent does bother people. People really need to be bothered in our society today–bothered by real issues and not issues like whose the next star of the Bachelor.
I hear you.
