I was recently a guest on Joel Richardson’s podcast. Joel interviewed me about items in The Unseen Realm and its lighter version, Supernatural. Here’s the interview:
The Underground Episode 37: The Unseen Realm With Dr. Michael Heiser from Joel Richardson on Vimeo.
Dr. Heiser,
I was overjoyed to hear the two of you teaching together. You both have critically needed and unique insight from God. And you are both fantastic teachers. The teaching that I’ve received from the work of both you and Joel, has shown me that God and his plan to save us through Jesus is way bigger than I had ever imagined.
I’m hoping to hear you both speak about Ezekiel 38 and 39 some day.
The problem I have with the book is the tenuous way you claim that the relationship drawn between “The God of the North” Baal and Yahweh is Ironic. …. or of course it could be literal.
Irony refers to the juxtaposition of theologies. You’re not understanding my use of the term.
That’s a good topic; I’ll put that on the list. Thanks!
Read page 227 of Unseen Realm which is the central fulcrum of your belief system. What justification do you have (beyond dogma) that he relationship given between Baal, El and Yahweh as “king of the heights” the ” House of Yahweh” etc is JUST a polemic.
Because of (a) the dozens of jabs taken at Baal in the OT; (b) the textual indications that El and Yahweh were not considered separate deities by the biblical writers WHILE (c) the biblical writers exclude several specific motifs of Canaanite El in their own descriptions.
In other words, if the biblical writes considered Canaanite EL and Baal to be good guys just Yahweh anyway, they did a piss-poor job of communicating that.
How about closed captioning for the hearing impaired?
I have no control over this when it comes to someone else’s podcast. For my own, I’d have no idea how to do it, though we are putting episodes on YouTube and they have something about that in their instructions. I haven’t looked into it yet. But this is in part why we create transcripts for every episode. Maybe YouTube can use those. I don’t know yet. Just another thing to do and no staff to do it. But if it’s doable, it will happen at some point.
