The short answer: Because the people who said it would are either inept Bible interpreters or false teachers.
For why that’s the case, listen to the episode – recorded on Sept 22.
Description:
September 23 has come and gone. The world didn’t end. Jesus didn’t return. There was no rapture. Planet X (Nibiru) never showed up. Why not? The answers involve both astronomy and sound biblical interpretation. We’ll leave the astronomy to experts in that field. We’ll consider the biblical reasons why the September 23 prophetic date-setting was nonsense. Those reasons are actually transparent, at least if we care about paying attention to the biblical text. In this episode of the podcast, we talk about five features of the passages used by false teachers who promoted Sept 23 as having end-times meaning. Join us for an episode on how to ineptly interpret the Bible.
They are already saying that actually now its the 30th because of what happened with Noah. It didn’t happen when expected, people “scoffed” for 7 days when there was no flood and Noah looked like a fool with a boat on land nowhere near water (they use the “in the last days there will be scoffers…where is the promise of his coming?”)… Then it happened when everyone let their guard down. And then some other thing about how it makes more sense for the last trumpet being the day of atonement instead of 23rd the actual sign…
and 40 days after the eclipse of 21st is apparently sept 30th.
Theres also some October date lined up that I’m sure everyone will fall back to if this doesn’t happen either.
it’s the gift that keeps on giving!
Why do refuse my comments Heiser.
I don’t – I just don’t look at comments very often. Now when I see yours I’ll know what to do with them. Your attitude has won you that much.
Get down and give me 50 Heiser. Ha! Love ya Dr. Heiser. Been following you for at least 20 years. Pre Grant Jeffries. Love your books. The Gilbert’s are going to be at Morningside on 31st. Would be great to see again at Morningside. Sorry about the attitude. Someone stole my Lincoln Logs that day. Ha! Thanks for the reply.
