Larry Hurtado has some interesting remarks on a recent study by Septuagint scholar John Wevers on the translation of the divine name (YHWH) in the Septuagint. Hurtado summarizes parts of Wevers’ essay, drawing out some fascinating patterns in the LXX. Readers with some Greek under their belt will appreciate the nuances, but I think Hurtado’s post is digestible for most.
The essay by Wevers is in this volume, available on Amazon: The Old Greek Psalter: Studies in Honour of Albert Pietersma (The Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Studies).
