I had occasion to send this file to someone by email who asked whether or not NT writers used Second Temple Jewish interpretive methods when handling the OT.  They do.  We’ve talked about this subject a couple of times before, so I thought you’d be interested in the sampling from Steven Moyise’s excellent book on the subject (Old Testament in the New: An Introduction). Any coherent discussion of inspiration and inerrancy must take these hermeneutical realities into account.  Creeds like Westminster do not do this, and neither does the Chicago Statement.  This is the tip of the iceberg, but it is representative of the kinds of things going on in the NT use of the OT.
