The Naked Bible faithful already know that I liked John’s book, despite some quibbles. Vern Poythress of Westminster Seminary doesn’t. Here’s John’s response.

Oh well, hopefully Poythress will be more careful next time.
As long as Dr Walton gets people thinking about ANE culture in respect to Gen then its a good job well done, i’d still go with the polemic nature of Gen rather than cosmic temple just for simplicity if i was ever asked, its a good job nobody ever asks ! 🙂
@Nobunaga:
I think there are elements of both, personally.
I wouldn’t disagree with that, but as a non ANE scholar i’m not as familiar with the temple cosmologies of other ANE cultures so it’s difficult to see a parallel with it, and the polemic language is something i can get my teeth into straight away as i see the differences with Israels neighbors and their cosmologies. Perhaps my view will change with more education about ANE culture. I was hoping the book was going to delve into other ANE cosmologies a bit more, but i’m sure there are a ton of books out there for that kind of stuff.
@Nobunaga:
you should get the book.
What book DR Waltons (lost world Gen one) ? yeah got it, read it in a week it was very good, i had some minor issues but nothing major very good book. I Have passed it on to my minister in the Church. I think its important people know about the ANE culture and how it effects Biblical writers.
