I have always thought that if Christ didn’t raise Himself, how is he any different from:
–The boy from 1 Kings 17
–The son of the Shunammite woman from 2 Kings 4
–The dead man from 2 Kings 13
–The daughter of Jairus from Mark 5
–The young man from Nain in Luke 7
–And of course, probably the most famous, Lazarus
If Christ didn’t raise Himself, how is He any different? I’ve long thought that He must have raised Himself.
What am I missing? I know I must be missing something.

I think there *is* that self-referential element in Jesus’ resurrection (John 10:17) and not the others, so that’s the important difference — but as usual, Jesus (and NT writers) don’t “dis-credit” the Father for the resurrection (they credit him many times). So the point isn’t “God didn’t participate” but that Jesus *did* participate in his own resurrection.

I also wanted to add that I purposely haven’t included any post-resurrection instances since those make total sense.
You know, ok, so Christ defeated Death (with a capital “D”), so of course he can easily imbue that power to any of those whom He so chooses.
Great episode! Thanks!
