Readers will know that I’ve long thought the ancient astronaut theory is tinged with racist thinking. (Think about it — the AA theory says Egyptians and various South American civilizations couldn’t possibly have built their pyramids and temples — they needed alien help — and that’s just the most obvious bias).
I direct readers to the following article to demonstrate I’m not alone:
“Leading Expert on UFOs” Nick Pope: Ancient Astronaut Theory “Borderline Racist”
The author of the article is Jason Colavito. As the title makes clear, he’s directing attention to some comments on this topic by Nick Pope, a familiar name to those into ufology.
Aren’t you racist yourself Mike? Just don’t lie to yourself.
I approved this because it will make readers laugh.
You however are a hypocrite sir. A person with your knowledge of the bible trying to ridicule an argument (silly as it may be) on the ground of it being allegedly “racist” is a closet racist himself, putting in plain sight that what he’s ashamed of (or what he “should” be ashamed of nowadays), thus supposedly hiding it best.
You’re really not that familiar with ancient astronaut ideas are you? You might want to trace its roots (rather deep they are) into theosophy and ariosophy. Better yet, get my novel, The Portent, and let the storyline do that for you. Then get the companion book for all the bibliographic information. But something tells me you aren’t looking for information.
I am not into ancient astronaut theories at all. I used to be when much younger, but I don’t believe this stuff anymore. I am also not into theosophy and have no intention of wallowing in that crap. I plan on getting your novel. I doubt that I’d be getting the companion book, unless I am incredibly intrigued by your fiction writing.
Do you understand what my issue with your post is? Please don’t lie to yourself.
Uh, no. I don’t lie to anyone, including myself.
Not to change the subject, but I have a question about “ancient astronauts” and pyramids: Why in the world would aliens with highly advanced technologies need to “mark landing sites” with huge piles of rock (which took decades to build). Didn’t they have electronic (or equivalent) means to do so? I have never seen anyone raise this question.
I do, and others do as well – but you’re right – you won’t see that on Ancient Aliens.
I think speciesism would be a better word to use than racism. The fact that these pyramids and temples were built in Egypt and South America is merely incidental and not the point that Ancient Astroauts are trying to make. If these structures were built in Europe the point would still hold true. The whole point that AAT’s are making is that any and all humans living back then could not build these structures. Their whole point becomes flawed if an AAT would’ve said, “Aliens must have built the pyramids because there were no white civilizations near by. White civilizations being the only civilizations smart enough or advanced enough to build these types of structures.” The point is NO humans were capable of construction these structures.
then how come greco-roman structures are rarely connected to aliens? some of these are just as impressive, as, say, pumapunku, which was built at around the same time, yet one is often called the work of aliens and another isn’t.
Because not all ancient astronaut arguments are the same. This is just one trajectory (unless you also happen to be an Afro-Centrist ancient alien theorist – then you’d credit Greco-Roman culture to Africans — but really, the alien gods of the Africans).
Just wait til the debunker gets debunked using his own criteria. The label of PHD, so dearly referred to as making a difference, will mean little when standards placed by his own academia discredit his own translations. And to make a living discrediting other’s research only begs that outcome Mike.
I’m not holding my breath – that either racism will be right or ancient aliens. Kind of sad you have to substitute bitterness for data in the conversation.
Interesting, this is not the first time I’ve heard this. Zechariah Zichen (might have misspelled his name) was rumored to have deep ties within numerous racist organizations including the Ku klux clan and the illuminati. That does not dispute the validity of the ancient alien theory. Being African-American myself i am still a very strong believer in the theory as a whole.
It’s “Sitchin” (it’s frequently misspelled online). The ancient astronaut idea is utter nonsense, but I don’t think Sitchin was some sort of klansman.
Yea, the other cultures of Darkies couldn’t possibly create shit!!! It is either rednecks or aliens!!!
But don’t people apply those same exact theories to things like Stonehenge? Which is in England?
Ancient alien theories are dumb, but they are dumb for reasons outside of racism.
Not all ancient aliens thought trajectories make racist assumptions, of course. I’m not aware of the specifics (just the generalities) of the English claims. In North America the racist thought is palpable (“Indians” were surely too stupid to build all those designed mounds — must have been descendants of the Old World civilizations started by aliens). That “Old World” trajectory includes Europe (which, in the 18th-19th century was part of the Aryan migration idea, which *some* folks married to ancient aliens (Hyperborean / Atlantis / Theosophical theory), but of course not all.
This guy is desperately trying to get exposure thru a phony “theory” ie that ancient aliens is racist because they believe “brown skinned people” bla bla bla. I DONT think the pyramids and myriad other ancient stone structures could have been built by ANY human-regardless of skin color because we didnt have the technology to do so that far back in antiquity. It has nothing to do with race or creed. It has everything to do with we could hardly build those structures today, much less build them before the advent of the wheel. This guy is only being outrageous for exposure at the cost of denigrating a very interesting topic. Its truly pathetic when you think about it.
What if your ancient aliens theory is traditional lore passed down to you through your living native American ancestors? Not trying to make you look like an asshole, btw.
