I’m not sure if the death of the multi-verse theory described in this obituary is correct, or if correct, whether that kills off the possibility of any other universe (shy of all the layers of the multi-verse). I’m also not convinced that “other universe” is an adequate synonym for “alternate plane of reality” even though we use the former phrase to mean the latter all the time. If these two concepts are not identical, then having no other universes would not necessarily be problematic for those who post ETs are from another dimension, or those Christians who opt for aliens as “spiritual entities” (demons for the most part; note that the “spiritual world” needs to be another plane of reality). Perhaps there are several reality planes within our single universe – ? Or maybe the problem is *this particular theory* of the multi-verse.
Any thoughts on the terminology problem or the general issue?
I think there are several theories that support the notion of a multiverse. This Superstring theory mentioned in that link is just one of them. I think one of the most recent ones is so-called M-theory … well at least I was spoonfed this through a Science documentary. This topic is so incredibly arcane. Even if experts dumb it down, it’s probably still very far from the mathematical description and easily misinterpreted. I would be very cautious when reading interpretations, claims and quotes about this topic.
It’s also worth mentioning that these theories are still being/have yet to be tested. They may only support the notion of a multiverse on paper.
I usually avoid these discussions because I honestly couldn’t contribute anything, let alone even remotely understand it.
thanks for this. It strikes me as odd that there would be no possibility of other universes. This helps, as it singles out this particular theory (i’m dependent on readers like you to alert me to there being more than one theory of other universes).
It seems to be that the biblical view of an alternate spiritual dimension has little in common with the multiverse. With M-theory the universes are separate bubbles and do not intersect. This has no effect on the interdimensional hypothesis in my view.
ah – interesting. I recall seeing illustrations of the multiverse where one member of a given universe could “reach into” another — but I gather that was a misrepresentation – ?
I have read conjectures where Jesus’ ability to appear in a locked room post resurrection was due to his access to extra dimensionality beyond the 4 we experience. I would think elohim, angels and demons would have that access as well. My take on the interdimensional ufo hypothesis is similar, they could be all round us but we cannot see them.
I kinda touch on this terminology issue here some: http://paradoxbrown.com/BiblePhysicsFallenAngels.htm especially Chapter 8 and on.
