My friend David deSilva recently posted a lecture on the Septuagint on YouTube. I know many readers have an interest in LXX studies.
David teaches for Ashland Seminary and has published widely in the areas of New Testament, the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, and Septuagint studies. Here are a few of his twenty or so books:
An Introduction to the New Testament: Contexts, Methods & Ministry Formation
Introducing the Apocrypha: Message, Context, and Significance
Excellent teaching, thanks for letting us know about it Mike!
The Jobes/Silva book ‘Invitation to the Septuagint’ is also good.
On a random note, I’ve often wondered if a meeting between Moises Silva and David deSilva would result in both of them being annihilated and releasing a massive amount of energy, like what happens between a positron/electron.
had to laugh! I’ve seen the separately at conferences . . . but never together . . . hmmm.
Thanks Mike! A great find.
I’ll let David know he has fans here!
This was a very informative and helpful lecture on the Septuagint. I had often wondered about the Septuagint and what role it played in relation to our Bibles and this really explained that. I’m looking forward to obtaining a copy of The New English Translation of the Septuagint.
Thanks for taking the time to clearly explain the history, purpose and function of the Septuagint.
